Homemade Chicken Nuggets With Ground Chicken

I am a chicken nugget lover! And dare I say connoisseur as well?!? When I was pregnant with my daughter 3 years ago the ONLY animal protein I could tolerate was chicken nuggets for a solid 3 months. Of course then I couldn’t make my own (definitely couldn’t look at raw meat!), so the frozen variety had to do, but it reignited my love for chicken nuggs!

Add to 2 kids under 5 at home, and we go through a lot of nuggets! BUT… now I ALSO make my own!

Because that’s the thing about nutrition… it doesn’t have to be ALL or NOTHING!

These Homemade Chicken Nuggets with Ground Chicken are made with a fun flavor spin to make them even better: everything bagel seasoning!

You’ll love these nuggets because they’re:

Ingredients to Make Homemade Chicken Nuggets With Ground Chicken

You’ll need just 4 ingredients to make these Everything Bagel Seasoned chicken nuggets, including:

  1. Ground Chicken is the base for these nuggets. It’s such an easy protein source, but you can also use ground turkey too.
  2. Panko Breadcrumbs help these get super crispy in the oven, without frying or added oil. You can opt for regular breadcrumbs or whole wheat, if that’s what you have, but I love the crispiness of the panko breadcrumbs. I’ve also used these Gluten Free Panko Breadcrumbs, if needed.
  3. Everything Bagel Seasoning adds SO much flavor to these nuggets. I mix it into the ground chicken AND in the breadcrumb coating. SO GOOD! I made this sesame-free version if you also have allergies and can’t use a store-bought seasoning.
  4. Smoked paprika makes an appearance in so many of my recipes with meat or chicken because I love the hint of smoky flavor it adds.
  5. Salt and pepper don’t really count, but of course, you’ll season your chicken!

How to Make Homemade Chicken Nuggets With Ground Chicken

This recipe could not be easier to make! I buy and cook ground chicken all the time and this is one of my favorite recipes to make!

First, prepare the inside of the nuggets (the ground chicken). All you have to do is season well, which is super easy with the Everything Bagel Seasoning). Simply mix together some breadcrumbs with the chicken and spices.

Next, you’ll coat the chicken in the panko and Everything Bagel Seasoning.

Now all that’s left is to bake the nuggets! They get seriously crispy in the oven!

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, if desired, and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the ground chicken with ½ cup panko breadcrumbs, 2 tablespoons Everything Bagel Seasoning, smoked paprika, and freshly ground black pepper. 
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the remaining ½ cup panko breadcrumbs and 2 tablespoons Everything Bagel Seasoning.
  4. Form the chicken into small nuggets, dipping in the panko mixture. Be sure to coat all surfaces well (both sides and the edges).
  5. Place on the prepared baking sheet, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F. Serve warm with ketchup, honey mustard, buffalo sauce, ranch, etc. Enjoy!

Notes

I like to use this meat thermometer to test the internal temperature.
