Grilling season is almost here, but I’ve gotta tell you something… I’m not the griller in our family! That’s 100% my husband’s job!

But I love a juicy burger and I can’t always rely on my husband’s schedule to grill, so I created the best substitute: a Burger Salad with Special Sauce! You guys loved this one on Instagram, so it definitely required a home on the blog!

Ingredients to Make this Burger Salad with Special Sauce

You need 10 ingredients to make this delicious burger salad, including the special sauce. As a bonus, none of the ingredients are out of the ordinary or difficult to find.

You’ll need:

  1. Ground meat/turkey/chicken (see below for a vegetarian swap)
  2. Garlic powder
  3. Romaine or green leaf lettuce
  4. Tomatoes
  5. Red onion, sliced
  6. Roasted (sweet) potatoes
  7. Pickles and pickle juice
  8. Mayo or Greek yogurt
  9. Ketchup
  10. Yellow mustard

Honestly, you can add, swap, or remove any item you’d like from this list….

  • Don’t like onions? Leave ’em out!
  • Have arugula in your fridge? Use that instead of romaine or green leaf lettuce.
  • Don’t want to roast potatoes yourself? Use a baked potato or frozen baked fries
  • Prefer a cheeseburger? Add shredded cheddar cheese!

Can I make this a vegetarian burger salad?

Absolutely! One of the best parts about this recipe is how customizable it is. Personally, I always have frozen bean burgers on hand, so that would make a really quick swap that’s also delicious.

How to Make a Burger Salad with Special Sauce

Now that you’ve gathered your ingredients, let’s talk about how easy it is to make this burger salad with an addicting special sauce (seriously, I’ve used the sauce on everything from sandwiches to salads to a dip!).

First, prepare all of your ingredients.

Mise en place as they say. This makes assembly super easy! You can also buy a pre-made salad kit that you like to save time. No shame in kitchen shortcuts!

Next, make the special sauce.

Set it aside for when you assemble the bowls. I like to double the recipe to save for other salads, sandwiches and dips throughout the week.

Last, brown your ground meat or veggie burger.

It takes just a few minutes to brown the meat or cook a veggie burger, so this is super quick.

Now it’s time to assemble the bowls!

Add all of the ingredients to a bowl, drizzle with the sauce and enjoy!
