Nut Free, Peanut Free, some Gluten Free options
Having food allergies sucks. It particularly sucks during special holidays. And it especially sucks during a holiday that has food restrictions built in, like Passover.
Passover is the Jewish holiday when the Jews were freed from slavery in Egypt.
Since the Jews left Egypt in a hurry, they didn’t have time to let their bread leaven. Now we celebrate Passover by abstaining from any leavened bread products or chametz for the 8-day holiday.
Yes, that means no bread, rice, grains, etc., except for matzo.
I’ve found that every individual and family follows slightly different “rules” during the holiday, but most avoid all chametz during the Passover sedars (the first two nights of the holiday).
If you have food allergies, like tree nut allergies, further restricting your diet can seem super limiting.
When you can’t use traditional flour for desserts it’s time to get creative. With the increase in popularity of alternative flours, many individuals turn to almond flour or almond meal for desserts.
But obviously that’s a no-go if you have allergies!
Passover is already super saturated with tree nuts, like almonds, cashews, pistachios, etc., so I wanted to gather recipes that are 100% nut-free… especially desserts!
If you didn’t try my Nut Free Charoset last year, I don’t know what you’re waiting for!
I always have a sweet tooth and we know restriction leads to wanting more, so here are some great nut free Passover desserts that are allergy-safe.
