Once upon a time when I was recipe testing for my cookbook, I made the most delicious chocolate mousse slash pudding. And the base was made from AVOCADOS.

Now, if you’re a frequent “healthy food trend follower” than you may know that this is not so unique. I consider chocolate avocado pudding in the ranks of cauliflower gnocchi and sweet potato toast. They were once novel combinations, but now they’re commonplace in the wellness sphere.

When I started thinking about healthy summer desserts I often make I couldn’t find a healthy chocolate avocado pudding recipe on my website. After all, I do LOVE baking with avocado (a la my avocado brownies and delicious chocolate truffles!)

So now the time has come for me to officially add the best healthy chocolate avocado pudding recipe into the blogosphere…

Why is my chocolate avocado pudding recipe the best?!

First and foremost, it’s SO EASY. I’m sorry, but if a recipe is too difficult there’s NO WAY it can be deemed “the best…” at least not in my book!

Second, the chocolate flavor is so rich. I find just a bit is totally satisfying. I used to feel compelled to devour the entire batch of any dessert I made, but when you improve your relationship with food, you can really learn to savor rich desserts. This healthy chocolate pudding made with avocados is a rich chocolatey dessert to savor!

Third, this entire recipe can be made and enjoyed within minutes. Sure, you can cool it if you’d like, but you don’t have to!

Healthy Chocolate Pudding is a great summer dessert because it’s a no bake dessert!

Avocados are blended to creamy perfection with SunButter, then given a chocolatey coating with unsweetened cocoa powder. The entire mixture can be lightly sweetened with several different sweeteners. You can always change the degree of sweetness to your personal preference.

It’s essential to use ripe, but not over-ripe avocados for this recipe.

How to Tell If an Avocado Is Ripe

There are a few ways to tell if an avocado is ripe. First and foremost, feel it! Your avocado is ready to cut open and use if it’s soft to the touch, but not mushy. There should be just enough give to it when you gently press your fingers around the avocado.

Another best way to discern if your avocado is ripe – but not OVER ripe – is to take off the tiny stem. If it’s green, your avocado is ripe. If it’s brown, there’s a chance your avocado is over-ripe.

Your avocados must be easy to mash or blend for this recipe. Look for “guacamole consistency” to make this recipe perfect!

Ingredients to Make Healthy Chocolate Pudding

You only need 4 ingredients (!!) to make healthy chocolate pudding. And one of them is a must-use…

Avocados are clearly the base of this healthy chocolate avocado pudding.

Creamy avocados blend into a delicious pudding slash mousse-like consistency. I consider pudding to be thicker and mousse to be lighter. The texture is exactly in the middle of the two.

Avocados are also nutrient-dense, lending a healthier twist to this recipe. They contain heart-healthy unsaturated fats, are an excellent source of fiber (with over 50% of your daily needs in 1 avocado!), and a good source of magnesium, which can help you stay calm.

SunButter adds creaminess and a rich flavor to this chocolate avocado pudding.

Plus, as you know, SunButter is full of nutrients, like vitamin E, magnesium, iron, and calcium.

Unsweetened cocoa powder adds tons of chocolatey flavor to this recipe.

For a more robust chocolatey flavor, add more cocoa powder. For less, add less. Cocoa powder is FULL of antioxidants, so it imparts some health benefits too!

The liquid sweetener that you choose is up to you.

You can use maple syrup, honey, agave syrup, date syrup, or any other liquid sweetener you prefer. Opt for a liquid sweetener instead of granulated sugar for a smooth texture.

How to Make Healthy Chocolate Avocado Pudding

It’s quite easy to make this healthier dessert recipe! Almost too easy! All you have to do is add all of the ingredients to a high-powered blender or food processor.

Blend until the mixture is smoooooth as pudding! You may need to pause to scrape down the sides to get all ingredients well-incorporated. That’s normal!

I do suggest you pause once all ingredients are combine and taste your pudding. You may want to adjust the sweetness to meet your preference. Personally, my husband and I found the ¼ cup of maple syrup to be perfect.
