Nut Free Peanut Butter Blossoms

Tis the season for all of the holiday cookies, and a classic this time of year are Kiss Cookies. Perhaps you call them Peanut Butter Blossoms?

As someone with a nut allergy, however, I’ve never made these before… until now!

These Nut Free Peanut Butter Blossoms or Nut Free Kiss Cookies are…

  • Easy to make
  • Delicious (or obviously I wouldn’t be sharing!)
  • Flourless
  • Allergy-friendly
  • Sooo satisfying (you won’t miss the flour)

Every once in a while you make a recipe that you know will be a repeat, and these are it! Whether you’re nut-free, your child’s school is nut-free, or you want to create a cookie that’s a little bit more inclusive this holiday season (or any season), these Nut Free Blossoms are a must-try!

Ingredients You’ll Need for Nut Free Peanut Butter Blossoms

This allergy-friendly recipe contains only 6 ingredients (+ salt). You may even have all of them in your pantry (I did!)…

You’ll need:

  • SunButter – this will be our substitute instead of peanut butter
  • Granulated white sugar
  • Light or brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • Baking soda
  • Chocolate kiss candies (see below for my allergy note)

Let’s talk about SunButter for a second…

I prefer to use Organic SunButter in this recipe for 2 reasons:

  1. It’s unsweetened, so I get to dictate the sweetness level with the sugar added alone. I think this is very important for baking.
  2. It’s unsalted, which means I can also decide specifically how much salt I wish to add.

Of course, if you don’t have Organic SunButter, and it can be more expensive, No Sugar Added is my second favorite choice. I always suggest buying in bulk (you can from Amazon here) or look out for sales (under $5/jar) at Thrive Market – best deals I’ve found.

But Chocolate Kisses aren’t made in a nut-free facility!!

TRUE, but rumor has it (and this is just what I’ve read online when this post goes live) that kisses are made on a dedicated line, separate from other candies. There are still nuts in the facility, but it’s a dedicated line. Take that as you will, depending on your allergy.

If you don’t want to use classic kisses (made by you know who), you can also try Guittard’s milk chocolate chips. They’re larger than classic chocolate chips and are kinda like mini kisses. You can even use 2 or 3 in the center and they’re just as delicious.

As a third allergy-friendly option you can spoon some Chocolate SunButter in the center and make that work.

How to Make Nut Free Peanut Butter Blossoms

This recipe is quite straightforward.

First, you’ll beat together the SunButter and sugars until all clumps disappear. Then add the egg, followed by the baking soda and salt. The dough will appear wetter than some other cookie doughs, but it’s supposed to be that way.

Use a 2 tbsp cookie scoop (here’s the one I used) to scoop the dough, then roll into a ball and dip in more granulated sugar. The added sugar is optional, but it makes the cookies look so pretty!

Then you’ll bake your cookies for about 9-10 minutes.

As soon as the cookies are done, have your kisses ready! This is when you place them in the center (don’t bake them!!!).
