Snacks don’t have to be complicated. The role of snacks are to bridge your hunger between meals so you don’t enter your next meal over-hungry.

Speaking of hunger, one of my top snacking tips is to eat a snack when you feel hungry.

Please don’t delay quenching your hunger… even if it’s earlier than your “usual” snack time.

This is why it’s also essential to be prepared with healthy easy to make snacks without cooking! Keep non-perishable snacks on hand at all times in case of an emergency (I personally love dry roasted edamame).

Meet the C.A.N. Snacking Formula:

This is my go-to formula I teach my clients and NTP students to feel their best from their snack.

1. Pick Produce When Possible

Remember, we want to ADD nutrients to your diet at snack time, so adding veggies and/or fruit is a great way to do that.

As a bonus, you don’t have to cook most fruits and veggies, so it’s easy to add produce to your easy to make snacks without cooking!

2. Fill up with 4-5g FIBER

Fiber is one of the most filling nutrients, plus it helps promote good gut health, heart health, and even brain health.

Choose fiber-rich foods to boost your fullness, like:

  • veggies
  • fruit
  • beans
  • whole grains

3. Add PROTEIN and/or FAT

A balanced snack contains 2 out of the 3 major macronutrients: carbohydrates, protein, and fat.

  1. Greek yogurt or Skyr with fruit
  2. Cottage Cheese bowl with fruit
  3. Turkey slices and hummus rolled with lettuce leaves
  4. Hummus with whole grain crackers and crudites
  5. Organic jerky and an apple
  6. Tuna/Salmon/Egg/Chicken Salad on cucumber slices with grapes
  7. Avocado + crackers
  8. Nut or seed trail mix
  9. Whole grain toast and nut/seed butter with sliced peach

  11. Chia pudding (chia seeds + milk mixed together)
