Top 10 Motivators to Go Meatless on Mondays This Holiday Season!
By now, you know I’m an avid follower (and promoter) of #MeatlessMonday! For almost four months I’ve shared health benefits, easy recipes, and simple ideas to help YOU go meatless (at least one day a week)…and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!
As the season of parties, large holiday dinners, and endless drinking is officially upon us, it’s even more important for your health to go meat-free at least one day a week.
Here are the TOP 10 MOTIVATORS to follow #MeatlessMonday this holiday season:
10. Try something new. Think outside of the box…it’s good for your brain! Whether you’ve never had a morning smoothie with spinach or make meat the focus of every meal, changing it up every now and then is good for your physical & mental health!
9. Help the environment. Going meatless one day a week saves thousands of gallons of water and reduces your carbon emissions. Did you know it takes 1,800-2,500 gallons of water to create a single pound of beef?
8. Savor Fall flavors. Fall is notorious for cinnamon, cloves, rosemary, thyme, pumpkin and more! Enjoy these flavors on winter squash and hearty root vegetables that are perfectly in season now! And stay warm with satisfying veggie soups!
7. Save time. Produce cooks quickly so instead of slaving in the kitchen, you can spend time with family, helping the economy, or planning your Thanksgiving menu!
6. Consume fewer calories at least one day per week. If you bulk up on fresh fruit & veggies instead of meat, you’ll easily consume fewer calories with complete satisfaction and fullness! Try my black bean burgers and yummy guacamole recipes tonight!
5. Save room for holiday treats! By going meatless on Mondays your diet has wiggle room for a cocktail or your favorite Christmas cookie…and that sounds good to me!
4. Don’t be a statistic! Research shows that the number of deadly heart attacks spike by 5% during the holiday season. Research also shows that going meat-free one day a week can decrease your risk of developing heart disease and improve your cholesterol levels. In between parties, help yourself be healthier and prevent a deadly event.
3. Live longer. Studies show a vegetarian diet is linked to lower mortality. Eliminating meat one day per week can increase your longevity too!
2. Save money. Between hosting holiday dinners or parties, buying presents, and giving back, the holiday season is expensive! Dry beans, lentils, and vegetables are cheaper than meat, so save money on food and put it into your holiday celebrations!
1. Prevent holiday weight gain. You may have already established your New Year’s resolution to get in shape or lose weight, but it doesn’t have to be the 1st to start making healthy changes! Cut your risk of chronic disease and help maintain your weight by going meatless ONE day a week…it’s THAT simple! Don’t make it more difficult for yourself after New Years, so prevent extra lbs by participating in Meatless Monday NOW!
