Did you make a New Year’s resolution to focus on your health? Start meal planning? Make some healthy changes to your lifestyle? Well, this blog post is for you…
I’m not a fan of weight loss New Year’s resolutions. Why? Most New Year’s resolutions fail. Instead, I like to focus on sustainable, doable goals and intentions that can make a big impact on your life.
One of my favorite tricks to teach clients about healthy eating without dieting is meal planning.
But meal planning can be so overwhelming if you’ve never done it before. To help you get started, I’m sharing some of my best meal planning tips in this blog post. Then, I’m sharing 3 recipes made with 1 ingredient because *hint hint* that makes a huge difference.
Here are 3 of my top meal planning tips for beginners…
Start meal planning tip #1: start small!
Instead of trying to plan every single meal and snack you eat in a week, I encourage you to start small. And by small I mean just 1-3 meals for the week. From my experience, I highly suggest starting with dinner.
Think about it – it’s 5pm, you finish up work, your kids are finishing up their homework, and you have to get dinner on the table. By knowing exactly what you’re going to eat (and even doing some prep in advance), you an get dinner on the table much quicker, without reaching to call for take out.
Start meal planning tip #2: use overlapping ingredients
One of my top meal planning tips is to use overlapping ingredients to cut down on waste and simplify your meal planning.
Even better, using overlapping saves you money! Say hello to that 3lb bag of sweet potatoes that you have no idea what to do with… and I’ll help you transform them into 3 delicious, nutritious, and easy dinners!
Start meal planning tip #3: order groceries online
Grocery delivery is the best invention since sliced bread. Think about it – no driving to the supermarket, finding a parking spot in a crowded lot, navigating distanced shopping, waiting on line to pay, getting in close proximity with others… etc, etc, etc.
Instead, I often suggest simplifying your healthy habits as much as possible. You’ll save time and can make more nutritious choices by planning in advance.
There are so many online grocery shopping options available now, but I’m so excited to partner with SideChef and Walmart to promote Walmart’s new delivery option via Walmart+. Even better, you can sign up to be a Walmart+ member, start a 15-day free trial today!
