Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 cups chopped apples (I used Macintosh and Honeycrisp), peeled
  • 1 12 ounce bag frozen cranberries
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • ¼ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Add apples, cranberries, cinnamon, cinnamon stick, orange juice and ¼ cup water to a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to simmer as the apples break down and the cranberries pop.
  2. Add maple syrup, if sweeter sauce is desired. Simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Apples will break down and you’ll be able to mash them with a spoon.
  3. Allow to cool before serving. Enjoy!
