Chocolate Toffee Pretzel Bark
Chocolate Toffee Pretzel Bark is a twist on a classic toffee cracker recipe using pretzels as the base. This is one of my favorite quick and easy desserts to bring to a party. Everyone always loves it!
While I know sugar addiction is not real (any study that says otherwise has a confounding factor of sugar restriction first!), this Chocolate Toffee Pretzel Bark is seriously ADDICTIVE!
This perfect combination of salty and sweet, chocolate with a crunch, fun but with a depth of flavor, is just that – PERFECTION!
I started making toffee bark years back as a Passover dessert. The toffee layer covered matzah with melted chocolate on top and I could literally eat the entire batch in one sitting. (No, that didn’t feel very good in my body, so I quickly learned!)
Many variations of a toffee bark exist, some with saltines as the base, even graham crackers… but when I saw a variation online using PRETZELS I knew I had to recreate it.
This Chocolate Toffee Pretzel Bark is…
- “Addicting”
- Salty & sweet
- Easy to make in just minutes
- A crowd-pleaser (seriously, I always make a double batch!)
- FUN!
The holidays are stressful with all the parties and baking and presents, but this Chocolate Toffee Pretzel Bark can be all of those…
- a great party pleaser
- just 3-5 minutes of bake time (with only 10 minutes total hands-on time!)
- such a lovely hostess gift, on a pretty platter
I hope you’ll try this one this holiday season!
But if you feel “addicted” to food, or like you have no self-control around holiday sweets, get support! You don’t have to feel that way!

How to Make Chocolate Toffee Pretzel Bark
This recipe does have a few steps, but they’re simple to follow! The most important thing to note about this recipe is that it moves quickly, so being prepared is essential.
First, spread the pretzels out on the lined baking sheet. This way, you’ll be ready to pour the hot toffee on top once it’s ready. Keep the baking sheet close by.
Next, you’ll prepare the toffee. Heat butter to melt over medium heat. When the butter is almost melted, add the brown sugar. Stir so that it does not stick to the bottom of the pot and burn. Once the butter and sugar mixture comes to a boil, let boil for 1-2 minutes so it thickens a bit.
Then remove from the heat and pour over the pretzels. Because pretzels have holes, a lot of the toffee will seep in between. This will be really yummy, but don’t worry so much about spreading it out on top. Just do your best to make sure the toffee gets distributed throughout the baking sheet.
Now you’ll bake for just 3-5 minutes, until the toffee bubbles.
Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Let them sit for a couple of minutes before spreading it out so there’s chocolate all over. Sprinkle sprinkles on top for a festive touch. You can use holiday sprinkles, like these Chanukah sprinkles, if you wish!
Refrigerate or freeze the baking tray so the chocolate sets. Once it’s cooled and the chocolate hardens, break into small pieces.
How to Store Chocolate Toffee Pretzel Bark
While it won’t last long, for best results and optimal freshness, store the toffee bark in an airtight container in the fridge. I love it cold, but if you want it room temperature, just take it out about 30 minutes before serving.
Turn this Pretzel Bark into a Candy Board!
With a million and one holiday plans this season, bringing something semi-homemade is always a fun idea!
I made a candy board to bring to a friend’s house to celebrate Hanukah and everyone loved it!
What should you add to a candy board?
Here are some ideas…
- Chocolate kisses
- Holiday cookies – homemade or store-bought (I picked up the chocolate starts at Trader Joe’s)
- Gummy candy

Chocolate Toffee Pretzel Bark
Ingredients
- 4 cups pretzels
- ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter, cut into 10 squares
- ½ cup lightly packed light brown sugar
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips
- Sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Line a quarter baking sheet with parchment paper, making sure it hangs off the edges. Layer pretzels in a single layer on the baking sheet.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. When about half of the butter is melted, mix in brown sugar, constantly stirring to prevent the sugar from burning. Once the butter is completely melted, bring it to a boil for 1-2 minutes stirring occasionally, until uniform consistency forms in the mixture.
- Pour the hot sugar and butter mixture over the pretzels. Use a spatula to ensure it’s spread evenly. Bake for 3-5 minutes until the toffee starts bubbling.
- Remove the toffee from the oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips on top. When the chocolate chips start melting, spread the chocolate into an even layer over the SunButter and toffee with a spatula. Sprinkle the sprinkles on top.
- Place in refrigerator or freezer to cool. Once completely cooled, break into pieces and enjoy! Store in an air-tight container in fridge or freezer.
