Our fridge is (almost) always stocked… I thoroughly enjoy preparing dinner (almost) every night… And our food budget (almost) always stays on budget because I think meal planning is fun!
While my hubby may not think about some of these, one perk I know he appreciates evvvveerrrry damn day is a nourishing breakfast!
Most mornings, I make him overnight oats!
In case you missed What S Ate Wednesday, he’s my biggest fan of overnight oats — or “OOs” as he likes to call them. Even 4+ years after we first started dating, I still make him overnight oats most evenings so he has a quick and easy breakfast to grab and bring to work.
Typically I use the same basic 5 ingredients to create his OOs…
Oats
Chia seeds
Milk
Fresh, dried, or frozen fruit
Spices

And then I add some cinnamon, ground ginger, a pinch of salt, a dollop of sunflower seed butter, and whatever fruit we happen to have in the house at the time.

Why do we love overnight oats? They’re…
- A great balance of nutrients — complex carbohydrates + protein + healthy fats!
- Full of micronutrients we need — magnesium, iron, B vitamins, calcium, and more!
- DELICIOUS!
- Easy to make and eat on the go.
- SO versatile…they never get boring!
Food bloggers all over the world wide web have come up with some creative overnight oat recipes that I think you will love! I’ve been working my way through these recipes to test on my hubby (YUP, another perk of living with yours truly — being a guinea pig for new recipes!) and so far I’ve only gotten YUMMMMS in return!
Ingredients for this Make-Ahead Breakfast
The variations for overnight oats are endless!
Just think about how many flavors of ice cream there are. Baskin Robbins alone has 31 flavors!
But even more with overnight oats, everyone has their own proportions and slight variations of ingredients.
Here are some common variations:
Amount of oats: 100% oats, or oats + chia seeds or flax seeds? Personally, I like to add the seeds. It thickens up the oats and adds more texture.
Type of liquid: Some use water, others use any type of milk under the sun. And you know the options are endless (dairy, soy, almond, coconut, oat… you get the idea).
Others use yogurt to boost the protein. I’ve been doing this lately (it’s not in any of my recipes yet), and it leads to the CREAMIEST results. Can’t wait to share a new recipe with y’all soon!
Add-ins: Now the fun really begins! The flavors and add-ins you could use are ENDLESS. From fruit (fresh, frozen, dried), nuts, seeds, nut/seed butters, protein powders, spices… you get the idea!
